Key Training Areas Tailored for Speech and Debate Coaches:
- Speech Writing Fundamentals: Winning speeches may cover a wide range of subjects, but most of the best speeches share much more in common than you may realize. We work with you to give you an extremely strong foundation in how to help craft the structure and refine the content of your students’ presentations, to create speeches that are powerful, engaging, and incredibly memorable.
- Emotional Engagement: Connecting with the audience on an emotional level can make the difference between a good speech and a winning one. Our sessions explore techniques for weaving emotional appeal into speeches, ensuring your students’ messages resonate on a deeper level, making their speeches more persuasive and impactful.
- Dynamic Delivery Techniques: Captivating an audience goes beyond what you say; it’s how you say it. Our training emphasizes mastering delivery techniques that engage and hold an audience’s attention. From controlling pace and tone to effectively using gestures and facial expressions, we cover the spectrum of delivery skills that can set your students apart in competitions.
My Six Core Principles:
- 1) Your opening 30 seconds needs to grab my attention and engage me emotionally. Make me FEEL something, whether it’s suspense, laughter, anxiety, anger, or curiosity.
- 2) A huge part of resonating with an audience is authenticity, and the key to authenticity is congruency. Your body language, vocals and content should always be in alignment, if you want to avoid looking like you’re “performing” instead of “connecting.”
- 3) Storytelling is key. A single well told story is more memorable and more persuasive than any fact, figure, or powerpoint slide.
- 4) A great speech isn’t just a great essay spoken out loud. Some of the sentence structures and rhetorical techniques that are most effective in public speaking go against nearly every lesson your English teacher has ever taught you.
- 5) Have a clear through-line. Having a metaphor or a story that weaves throughout your presentation can be an incredibly powerful way to make it feel more focused and easy to follow.
- 6) Record yourself repeatedly when you practice. It can feel awkward to watch yourself on camera for many of us, but it’s absolutely the fastest way to review, analyze, and improve your performance.

Yes! I am happy to facilitate your training worldwide, whether remotely or in person.
Our school has a limited budget, are you still able to assist us?
Absolutely. As a starting point, we would strongly recommend purchasing The Art (And Science) of Public Speaking, at just $24.99. We will also be offering small group training at $50 / Hr. for speech and debate teachers in the near future.
Can we be the only school in our area that you work with?
Exclusivity arrangements can be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
